My name is Emmett Beggs, I’m a mixed media artist with a focus on textiles. In my capstone project I combine quilting and silicone casting. I juxtapose gaudy over-the-top symbols of queerness and comically overdone sexuality with the traditional “women’s craft” of quilting. I use the lens of drag to emphasize and poke fun at the absurdity of gender. Quilting and textiles in general have a rich history that I pull from, it takes a large amount of dedication and craft, forcing you to truly care about each step of the process. Along with previous themes I am also influenced by the artists Agnes Questionmark, Sin Wai Kin, and Paul Yore. All three of them are arguably doing drag to varying degrees.
